Process::Status provides a lightweight \s-1OO\s0 interface for \f(CW$?\fR. I recommend
this module now over Proc::ChildError.

IPC::System::Simple provides a replacement for Perl's \f(CW\*(C`system()\*(C'\fR, with the
difference that it will print a diagnostic error message similar to what
\&\f(CW\*(C`Proc::ChildError\*(C'\fR provides. You only need to do \f(CW\*(C`use IPC::System::Simple
qw(system)\*(C'\fR and use \f(CW\*(C`system()\*(C'\fR as usual. Recommended.
